Wax Factory's Ivan Talijancic gives a big thumbs-up to HERE!

Wednesday, June 3rd found us at HERE Arts Center for their annual benefit party. It was a superfun evening, an intimate event of HERE’s great friends, Board members, and donors including Michael CerverisLuis Castro of TimeWarner, Elysabeth KleinhansJamie Bennett of DCA, Don Palmer of NYSCA, Frank Hentschker and Morgan Jenness.  One of my fave DJs – DJ Acidophilus (aka Bill Bragin) was spinning groovy tunes and the house was filled with young lovelies (and lovers) making merry. They opened the doors to the street and the party dutifully spilled outside, with drinking (courtesy of Emmanuelle Chiche of the Bubble Lounge) and dancing until the wee hours of morn.

Unfortunately, my fotog was out sick, so I had to do the snapping myself, obviously not my strong point. But click on the pic of Ivan above to check out a few more snaps on FB.

And of course I can’t forget to mention that it was opening night of machines machines machines machines machines machines machines – the newest creation of the All Wear Bowlers team of Trey Lyford & Geoff Sobelle, with added performer Quinn Bauriedel. The opening night performance was chaotic and crazy – I think with all those moving parts there’s going to be a few nights of settling in. But these guys are masters of highbrow physical comedy and this surrreal beckettian  romp through rube goldberg-obsessed landscapes comments both on man’s dependence on techne and, ultimately, technology’s  fallibility. I look forward to seeing the show again! You should see it before it starts to sell out!

Kudos to HERE for (10!?) great years!
