Laurie Anderson to open BAM Next Wave 2010

Just got the season release for BAM Next Wave 2010 and it looks really great.

Pioneering performance artist Laurie Anderson opens the 2010 BAM Next Wave Festival with Delusion, a far-reaching work exploring memory and identity. Delusion received its world premiere at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and now makes its anticipated New York premiere at BAM.

In Delusion, deeply affecting music redolent of Tibetan temple horns and Arabic strings is performed by Anderson on electronically enhanced violin with a supporting virtuoso ensemble. Delusion’s structure imitates the meandering nature of one’s personal thoughts, exploring themes from politics to personal longings, fusing the internal and external worlds into a mystical whole.

Also in the season is Brooklyn Omnibus, a song-cycle from composer/performers Stew and Heidi Rodewald—with their band The Negro Problem; German choreographer Sasha Waltz’s Gezeiten—a bold dance-theater work exploring the human response to catastrophe. Theater productions include Needcompany’s The Deer House, James Thiérrée in Raoul, and new work from Ridge Theater, Ping Chong and Thomas Ostermeier.

Another piece that looks really fascinating is a new adaptation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis by Iceland’s Vesturport Theatre and London’s Lyric Hammersmith—under the direction of Gísli  Örn Gardarsson and David Farr—with music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

I might have to actually get season tickets this year!
